8 Day Chair Making Course - feedback. Tutor: John Waller

General comments:

“I'm very pleased that I've managed to create something that I think looks so good; thank you very much for your (major) part in it! Great course, great people, thank you!” Julian 2013

Another great week at Bore Place. Now a regular fixture in the calendar. I continue to thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere, the company of other attendees and the ability to come away with what I hope will be another family heirloom. John is an excellent tutor. His style compliments the rest of the course – relaxed. John is always good humoured and never gets flustered even when he’s got all his students firing questions at him when they’re trying to complete the chair on the last afternoon of the last day of the course. Can’t wait for next year.” Andrew 2012

“Being at Bore Place for a week is very relaxing. I love the wood work, but the place itself seems to be from another age. I understand why a busy man like Andrew comes back each year to escape the modern world. Your teaching style is very good. You impart a lot of knowledge without making your pupils feel daunted or stupid with unending patience - not easy. The only thing I would say is that I had not come armed with a design (I guess I had been busy with other things) so a reminder a week or so before the course starts to give some thought to the sort of chair I might like to make, may be useful to some people. Thanks again and hope to see you next year. PS managed to get some cherry logs today. Now what shall I make...?”

“Really enjoyed the eight days ! John is very skilled at jiggling the different speeds, abilities & designs of each attendee. And always was able to answer questions with simple clear explanations.”

John has a fantastic affinity with wood and an excellent ability to juggle the individual technical needs of each individual in the group.  He does a great job guiding each person through the conception design and execution of their own original piece of work. He also keeps his tools sharp, which is very important. I couldn’t think of a better personal tutor for what I want to do with wood and hope to come again when the day-job permits.”

A very worthwhile course and many thanks to John.”

“I think it might be a good idea to have a list of things that will be covered to act as an aide memoire for both John and the students. For instance, we never did cover tool sharpening.”
“There was too much to do at the end!”
